Wow, it's been a month since either Richard or I posted. Nice. Actually, we've had a lot going on in the meantime.
Our trip to California was exactly what we needed except for the fact that it was way too short! We started off by spending the first night at The Golden Nugget hotel in Las Vegas. We usually stay at the South Point, but we decided to hotwire this trip. If you're unfamiliar with hotwire.com, you pick the star rating and price, and book before knowing where you actually will stay. It was an adventure. But it worked out really well for us.
Back to the Golden Nugget. By far the best part was the pool... it had a three story enclosed waterslide that shot you through a shark tank! I kid you not. It was very exciting. That night we explored the Fremont Street Experience. Richard had never heard of it before, and I'd only been there once. For us, it was more exciting than the strip. There were shops and kiosks, and of course, the biggest overhead screen featuring ten minute miniconcerts every hour. Google Fremont Street Experience if you have no idea what I'm talking about!
Next stop: California! Well, more specifically, La Jolla. La Jolla Shores, the beach where we spent most of our time, is now one of my two favorite beaches. The other is just up the freeway a bit, Cardiff. Both are beautiful, awe-inspiring, and gave me a much-needed boost. Hotwire had assigned us to stay at the Hyatt Regency. Yes, it was beautiful, but honestly? I learned on this trip just how little I need to truly be happy. I had Richard by my side and the ocean at my feet and I felt freer than I have in years. We got rained on a lot in La Jolla/San Diego, but it still didn't interfere with beach time. Thanks to Shauna and Dan for meeting up with us and making that Monday a wonderful day! Leaving California was surprisingly hard for me. I had no desire to come home.
After California, we spent the night in Vegas again on our way home. This time we were at Red Rocks Resort. VERY nice, very ooh la la. I wish we'd had more time at this one. Maybe next time.
Perhaps the best part of coming home was that Richard finally started his new job! After working for the Salt Lake County Library System for 4 yearsish, he now works at Salt Lake County Animal Services. I forget his real title, but it's sufficient to say he's the smart guy who does the necessary computer and database stuff. I'm so proud of him. The only thing I'm unsure about with this job are the hours. We've gone from Night Owls to Early Birds. My body is having a VERY hard time with that. Richard's fallen in love with caffeine all over again, but hopefully we'll get it in gear soon.
I promise it won't take us a month to update again. Well, I hope not anyway. Kay, bye.
