The Donny and Marie Christmas Special 1978
Tonight, we watched the Donny and Marie Christmas Special from 1978. Yes, it's a mouthful. The experience was a magical trip through time to an age of really bad haircuts, lame dance ensembles, and even lamer musical numbers. Despite being chock-full of Osmonds, even Lyndsie had a hard time not rolling her eyes to this one.
It's difficult to say which part was the most exciting and/or magical. I'm torn between the photo montage of snow sports and the cooking fiasco with the Osmond men. Yes, it was a dance number. No, I don't think I'd like to see it again.
I think the real star of the special wasn't Donny or Marie.
I think it was the androgynous youngest sibling who broke into song somewhere in the middle. I'm thinking it was male, since its name was Jimmy, but you wouldn't know it from looking or listening. Though not taken during the special, here's a pic to show you what I mean:
Isn't he a fine looking fellow? We thought so.
Alas, but the show lasted a mere fifty minutes or so before we were irreverently flung back into our own lives, riddled with cold/flu/the plague.
Perhaps the Osmond experience will become an annual tradition. Every year, we'll gather around a piping hot TV set to watch and cringe together in the finest holiday manner. I guess we'll see.
