Mom, Jaymie, Michael, Richard and I played "The Barbie Game: Queen of the Prom," which is a gem from our childhood. We used to play that every time we'd go to Grandma and Grandpa's house. Grandpa usually won, bless his heart. It's funny because there are a few main points of this game: earn money, buy a dress, get a boyfriend and go steady, go to school and become a club president, and then make your way to the Prom and become Queen. Richard always beats me when we play, but yesterday Mike was crowned Queen. It was so nice to laugh and be happy and feel that maybe, just maybe, Grandma was there, too.
Maybe our little party was silly, but I really enjoyed having everyone here. I especially loved our little tribute to her, in the form of her favorite treats and games. We also had carrot sticks. Jaymie had told me that my grandma served Michael carrots the first time he went to her house for dinner because she didn't know what to serve a vegetarian. Ha ha, that cracks me up.
My grandma was a fun and funny person, and we loved playing games with her and Grandpa. It's not quite the same to play Aggravation without Grandpa. And it won't be the same for Jaymie and me to play Scrabble without Grandma. But we will. And when we do, we'll remember. And that is a tribute in itself.
