This week's sugar is someone we've all become familiar with over the last few years. You may have seen him selling Oxi Clean, Kaboom, life insurance, a slider maker, Mighty Mendit, or about a trillion other things, but you know him by his genial smile, his booming voice, and that wicked beard.
Yes, this week's (sadly "Memorial Edition") of SNS is no other than Billy Mays. It's common knowledge in my little circle of friends that I kind of have the fake hots on Billy Mays. I know that a lot of people can't take the fact he comes across as yelling on TV, but man, the guy could sell a product. And he really seemed to believe in every product he hawked.
Sadly, Billy Mays died this morning. It was very unexpected and when Richard told me, I couldn't believe it. Billy's kind of an in-joke with Richard and me, and every time one of his commercials come on, I interrupt whoever's talking, drop what I'm doing, and yell "Billy Mays!" and talk back to the TV. I never thought I'd say this about a commercial salesman, but...I'm going to miss seeing him.
Thanks, Billy Mays, for turning me on to Oxi Clean...you're right, it's a great product. We were already planning on buying and trying "Kaboom" in the new house... I bet that'll be great too.
Rest in peace to the man I never knew but seemed like a friend.
