Updates - Life as we know it

Hello out there! Hopefully a few of you out there still check back on our humble little blog to see what's going on the lives of your two favoritest people in the whole world! Right? I thought so.

So a lot has been going on in the last few months. So much has happened, in fact, that I don't know what we've revealed and what tidbits we're still conserving to some day spring upon you unsuspecting readers.

Let's start with my job (if you couldn't tell, this is Richard talking. Don't let the high-pitched falsetto throw you off...) as that's where I spend most of my week. As most of you know, I transferred from Riverton Library to a new position here at Salt Lake County Animal Services. I was scared to death of the change - afraid to leave my library friends and uncertain about changing careers in this economy. However, the library was destroying my health so when this office job showed up, I jumped all over it.

Thank heavens I did. Working for Animal Services has been the best job I've ever had. By a long shot. It's not perfect, by any means, but it is perfect for me at this time in my life and I really feel like I'm making a difference and am appreciated. In fact, I'll bet I've already pontificated at length about them sending me to a Las Vegas conference in June. My first business trip is almost here! With a little finagling and awesome bosses, it has become possible for Lyndsie to join me on this adventure. YAY!!!

Though my official title varies between 'Statistician' and 'Animal Control Field Support Specialist,' I'm really so much more. I spend a lot of time working on statistics, but they're letting me help with computer issues as they arrive, I'm now the on-site database administrator and web designer, and they make me feel like I'm doing good work and am appreciated.

As you know, the housing issue has been really frustrating. We've just put in our last counter-offer on the house we want, so it's really just down to fate. Fate has treated us incredibly well in our life together, so I am hopeful and optimistic.

In other fascinating news, we're fostering a sugar glider at home. Apparently, someone brought in a glider as a 'stray' with some of it's bedding and stuff. Yeah, I believe that BS! In any case, we named her Betty White and have her in our extra cage from our library days. She's a cranky one (even worse than Rue) but it's kind of fun having another little one around. I know the shelter would love for me to purchase her, but I really don't want to have another mouth to feed permanently. Besides, she doesn't really get along with Bea and Rue yet. I'm still working with her, so things may change, but if anyone out there is experienced with gliders and already has one companion, please let me know and I can get you a good deal on Betty! ($75.00)

As of this afternoon, I'm also sponsoring two kittens in my cubicle at work. It's kitten season out there and we're getting kittens by the litter. Putting them all together tends to lead to outbreaks of illness and we lose kittens. So to help out, I'll be caring for two of the little rapscallions in my cubicle. Isn't that exciting? I love kitties!

I'm not sure what other recent events to share with you, but will leave you with one thought: be happy. It's great!
